Clean up crew continued on Friday. Fans will blow all weekend in the hopes it will dry out the flooring, but as the floor of the shop is non-conductive matting over industrial carpeting over concrete, there's a distinct possibility that it wont dry out by Monday and the carpet will have to be removed. I think we're good, they brought in huge fans and the air is dry.
Our accountant wants us to declare these 'destroyed' so we can write them off inventory for insurance, but these devices will never be made again and our collection of them is huge. Unlike other 'collectors' who leave them in 'as found' (and sometimes terrible) condition, we restore them for others, and the destruction of these would remove a major percentage of available violet rays in the US. I tell you I'd like to get my hands on the other major US collection and FIX every kit in it as well as continue to fix every one of these. Other options are a 'loss' sale (like a fire sale) or just absorbing the cost of cleanup so we can keep them in inventory. At least we don't have to make a hasty decision.
Look at the little Renulife in the very front. Non-working and 'as is', its valued about $100. But fully restored to pristine condition, its worth 3 times that. To people who love these, to have a beautiful, restored, and fully functional device is priceless. It would be a travesty to remove almost 300 violet ray kits from availability.
Its good that the dry-out is over the weekend, we are always closed on weekends anyway. But I thought I'd pop in on this lovely Saturday morning and give you an update. Then its off to a family wedding! Ah, spring! Weddings, flowers, and...well, rain.
